Boiler Girls win against Mendota in high-scoring game

Kieryn Abernathy drove in four runs on two hits to lead the Kewanee Boiler Girls past Mendota 13-10 on Thursday. Abernathy hit a home run to center field in the fourth inning, scoring three runs, and singled in the first inning, scoring one.

Kewanee collected 10 hits and Mendota had 13 in the high-scoring affair.

Kewanee opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to an Abernathy and Rylee Blades single. 

Seven more Boilers runs crossed the plate in the fourth inning powered by a Remy Hicks 2 RBI single, an RBI single by Macee Pickering, and Abernathy’s home run to center field, scoring three runs.

Mendota scored five runs on six hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. 

Kalleigh Gale began the game for Boilers. The starting pitcher allowed four hits and four runs over three and a third innings, striking out two and walking none. Lyric Duytschaver and Audrey Clucas each appeared in relief for Boilers.

The Boilers piled up 10 hits in the game. Hicks, Abernathy, Pickering, and Dani Jo Currier each collected two hits for Boilers. Currier stole two bases.

Mendota accumulated 13 hits in the game.
