
Kewanee had trouble keeping up with the Rockridge Rockets in a 12-5 loss on Friday.
Kewanee opened the scoring in the second inning after a dropped third strike scored Audrey Clucas.
Rockridge hit a double and a triple in the top of the third to tie the game.
After Dani Currier reached on a hit, a hard ground out by Macee Pickering later in the inning gave the Boiler Girls the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the inning.
Rockridge jumped into the lead in the top of the fourth following a home run to center field, scoring three runs, and a walk, leading to an eventual run scored.
Kewanee made the score 12-5 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Evelyn Schiltz hit a solo home run to center field and Kieryn Abernathy singled, scoring one run.
Remy Hicks stepped in the circle first for Kewanee. The pitcher surrendered four hits and three runs over three and one-third innings, striking out four and walking one. Rockridge’s starting pitcher allowed three hits and three runs (two earned) over six innings, striking out eight and walking two.
Pickering provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Kewanee with two runs batted in. The catcher went 2-for-4 on the day. Pickering and Dani Jo Currier each collected two hits for Kewanee while the Boiler Girls turned one double play in the game.
Rockridge piled up 13 hits in the game, led by the seven spot in their lineup with five runs batted in.
The loss moves the Boiler Girls to a 12-5 overall record and 6-0 in the TRAC East conference.
The Boiler Girls will travel to Fulton for their next game on Wednesday.
