The remains found at Northeast Park Thursday were those of an “unidentified adult,” the Kewanee Police Department announced Friday afternoon.

At 9 a.m. Friday an autopsy was conducted on the skeletal remains found at Northeast Park.

“At the conclusion of the autopsy, a preliminary report found that the skeletonized remains are those of an unidentified adult,” according to a news release from the police department.

A forensic anthropology examination will now be scheduled as the next step in helping identify the remains, the release said. “Investigators are also working to obtain dental records for comparison as part of the identification process,” according to the release.

Police are asking that anyone who has information that may assist in this investigation contact the Kewanee Police Department at (309) 853-1911 and ask for the Investigations Division.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
