Tuesday’s boys basketball game at Wethersfield was exceptional for more than just the play on the court. Before the varsity game, three Wethersfield seniors were celebrated for their academic achievements.

Wethersfield superintendent Dr. Andy Brooks awarded the scholars. The three students honored were Traiden Hier, Sophie Nimrick, and Landon Sauer.

High school principal Tyler Nichols said, “We announced them at the basketball game to get as many people as possible to recognize them for this great achievement.”

Traidan Hier is the daughter of Tracy and Dan Heir. She is a member of National Honor Society, Key Club, Student Council, and serves as co-president in FFA. She also participates In football and basketball cheer, along with golf in the fall and softball in the spring.

Sophie Nimrick is the daughter of Lisa and Tim Nimrick. She is a member of NHS, Key Club, and leads the WHS senior Student Council as president. She too participates in football and basketball cheer. She also takes part in volleyball in the fall and in the spring softball.

Landon Sauer is the son of Shelly and Laman Sauer. He is an active member of Key Club and Student Council year round. He also dedicates his time in the fall to football and in the winter to basketball.

Mr. Nichols congratulated all three students on their accomplishments and noted how their examples inspire others.

“ We hope we can get as many kids as possible in each graduating class to be an Illinois state scholar. If everyone strives for that achievement, the numbers will grow.”
