On Saturday, June 20, Bishop Hill will be filled with excitement and music during the annual Midsommar festivities. The event will be held at the Village Park as well as the Creative Commons.
Bishop Hill is a former Swedish colony that brought Swedish Midsommar customs to the area. Midsommar has been celebrated in Sweden for over 500 years and has roots tracing back to the Medieval times.
During the day, there will be a variety of crafts, activities and booths in the village park. Village businesses will have yard games set up for visitors to play and Creative Commons will also host the performance of a chainsaw artist.
The activities will go from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. They are as follows:
● 10 a.m. – “It’s not Magic, It’s Science” by Dr. Dean Campbell, Bradley University Chemistry Department
● 11 a.m. – Live Melee and Historic Weapon Display by Brotherhood of Steel
● Noon – Orion Community Band
● 1 p.m. – John Heasley Music
● 2 p.m. – Maypole decorating, parade to the colony school, dancing and light refreshments.
Guests are encouraged to bring a lawn chair to sit back, relax and enjoy the day.
