It’s that time of year again. The Salvation Army in Kewanee is looking for volunteers to ring bells during its annual Red Kettle Campaign, one of the organization’s most recognizable holiday traditions.
Eddie Toliver, director of the 360 Life Center in Kewanee, said volunteer bell ringers play an important role in helping local families during the Christmas season.
Toliver said the Red Kettle Campaign makes a real difference for people right here in our community. Every dollar raised in Kewanee stays in Kewanee and helps meet local needs throughout the year.
The Red Kettle Campaign began in 1891 and has grown into a nationwide fundraising effort for the Salvation Army. While the campaign is national in scope, donations collected locally remain in the community where they are raised.
Funds from the Kewanee campaign help support a variety of programs and services for area residents, including emergency assistance, food programs, utility assistance, seasonal outreach efforts and other support for individuals and families facing hardship.
The Salvation Army is now seeking individuals, families, church groups, businesses and civic organizations willing to volunteer as bell ringers during the holiday season.
