No Kewanee High School girls track athletes qualified for the state finals off their performance at the sectional meet in Mendota.

“The wind got the best of a lot of runners tonight,” Coach Amanda Johnson said after Wednesday’s meet. “Kewanee didn’t have any girls qualify for state.

“We came close in the shot and the 300 hurdles,” Johnson said, “but close doesn’t cut it when you have to hit the mark.”

Damaris Diaz placed fourth in the shot but fell short of hitting the qualifying mark of 10.66. Her best throw was a 10.59.

Jendayia Crowe placed sixth in the 300 hurdles. The time to beat was 48.67 and she was clocked at a 49.68.

Five girls had already run qualifying times before sectionals and only two qualified under the time, Johnson said.
