John Misuraca’s Lock and Key Shop on Henderson Street in Galesburg has opened a branch in Kewanee.
The Lock and Key Shop on North Tremont Street is now open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday to serve Kewanee-area customers.
In 2020, Misuraca purchased the Galesburg Lock and Key business from Amos Blevins, who had owned it since 1977. That store had a number of customers from the Kewanee area, and he also made emergency service calls here.
So Misuraca decided to open a store here.
As he was cruising through downtown Kewanee, he saw that the former location of the Office Specialities store on North Tremont Street was for sale.
So he purchased the building, and now, he’s glad he did.
“When this building came up, it was perfect,” Misuraca said.
Not only was there plenty of space in the building, but the walls were lined with pegboards and shelves.
“This is what you need to for a lock shop,” Misuraca said.
There are around 1,000 key blanks hanging on the pegboards. The store also sells llocks and other accessories.
But the “key” to his business is service. Misuraca offers 24-hour emergency service for people who are locked out of their home or car.
“We’re full service. . .residential, commercial, cars,” he said.
He said he’s spoken with city development people, and will seek the financial incentives the city has to offer.
Misuraca said he is happy to be in his new location.”This downtown is really starting to come back,” he said.
Customers may find that Misuraca is out on a call when they come to the store. They can contact him at 309-363-3036.
Misuraca said he hopes to hire someone to be at the shop during all the business hours, where they could cut keys, serve customers and do other tasks.
