Boiler Girls overwhelm Farmington

Kewanee High School’s Boiler Girls hosted the Farmington Farmers on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 1, and won by a score of 55-17.

Despite senior Tejhiana Amos being sidelined due to injury, Kewanee got off to a fast start, led by sophomore Damaris Diaz’s 10 first-quarter points. 

Combined with Kewanee’s sound defense, the Boiler Girls took a 16-2 lead into the second quarter, where they expanded their lead to 30-4.

Kewanee let off the gas in the second half but held their lead, winning the turnover battle 25-9 while also out-rebounding the Farmers 24-14. The Boiler Girls are now 17-9 on the year.

Kewanee’s JV team was also in action and won 49 to 14.

The Boiler Girls will be back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 6 p.m., hosting the Orion Lady Chargers in Brockman Gym. The JV game has been canceled. 

The next day, KHS will face off against Sterling Newman at 7 p.m. on the Comets’ home court.
