The Good Fellow’s Christmas Basket operation is underway, and the Good Fellow’s Christmas Basket Club is now accepting applications and nominations for basket recipients.
The tradition for providing baskets to Kewanee families in need started in 1969 and has continued for over four decades. The baskets are made up each year of donated and purchased food and put together by volunteers, students and Key Club members at Central School.
They are distributed to families with multiple members or individuals who are food insecure, and the club’s mission is that no one should be hungry in Kewanee at Christmas.
The baskets contain items such as soups, hams, peanut butter, beans, tuna, and spaghetti sauce. This year, the baskets will be delivered to hundreds of residents on Dec. 20.
The deadline for the basket nominations and applications is Friday, Dec. 6. To apply or nominate someone, contact the Kewanee High School at (309) 853-3328.
Monetary donations to help purchase food items can be sent to P.O. Box 5, Kewanee.
