League of Women Voters forum to highlight contested Henry County Board races

The League of Women Voters of the Kewanee Area will partner with WKEI radio in Kewanee to hold a candidates’ forum on Wednesday, March 4 at 7 pm for the competitive races of Henry County Board, District Two. The forum will be held in the Kewanee City Hall chamber, at 300 E. Third St. The primary election is on March 17.

This forum is open to the public to attend in-person. Also, it will be broadcast live on the local radio stations, WKEI 1450 AM and 102.1 FM. You can watch a video live and after the broadcast on Facebook Regional Media News WKEI 102.1-1450 and the radio station’s website.

The forum will follow a strict format. The candidates will make an opening statement, followed by questions from the LWV moderator and audience and a closing statement. The candidates are invited to stay afterwards to mingle with the audience and refreshments will be provided.

The six candidates running for the five open seats for the County Board District 2-Republican are David Tomsic, Chad Winter, Natalie Hendryx and Marshall Jones of Kewanee; Deborah Casteel of Cambridge; and Kevin Brown of Alpha. The two candidates running for one seat for the unexpired term are Crystal Strode of Kewanee and Mike Rabas of Bishop Hill.

The public is invited to participate by mailing questions to Carla Hillman, 408 S. Tremont St., Kewanee. The questions will be answered by all candidates unless otherwise specified to an individual or individuals. This submission must be signed by the questioner. The League reserves the right to determine if a question is appropriate, and to edit and combine questions.

You may find information on voting and candidates throughout the state on the website Vote411.org which is provided by the League of Women Voters of Illinois. Also, you can enter your address and see a list of offices that will be on your ballot. Information will be updated over time.

There are no other competitive local races. Other races on the Democratic or Republican ballots are Henry County Clerk/Recorder, Treasurer and Sheriff; Regional Superintendent of Schools; 47th State Senator; 93rd State Representative; 17th Congressional Representative; U S. Senator; and Illinois Governor/Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, and Treasurer.

The League of Women Voters, a non-partisan political organization, encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, works to increase the understanding of major public policy issues and to influence public policy through education and advocacy.
