Typically served to man’s best friend in drive-thru restaurants, pup cups made their way over to the Kewanee Animal Shelter on Wednesday.
General Manager Melissa Capps of Scooter’s Coffee brought supplies and made pup cups for the dogs and cats waiting for homes at the Kewanee Animal Shelter. Capps said she found inspiration for the idea from a Scooter’s Coffee fan page on Facebook and wanted to bring the pup cup activity to the local shelter.

While most restaurants make pup cups with just whipped cream, Scooter’s adds a little flair by throwing in a milk bone. Although the treat is called a “pup cup”, it is a special treat for any kind of animal.
Scooter’s frequently gets cats and even exotic animals like lizards and one time a kangaroo through their drive thru. The Kewanee Scooter’s even has a horse who loves the pup cups. While the coffee shop has regular human customers, they also have regular four-legged customers that they have come to know by name.

“All animals are important to Scooter’s,” said Capps.
Scooter’s is using the pup cup event at the shelter to raise awareness of the “Clear the Shelters” pet adoption event in August. Starting April 30, they will be promoting the campaign by giving out punch cards for the pets that come through the drive-thru with their owners. Get 10 punches on a card and your pet will receive a special prize. Pup cups are complimentary.
