Students at Belle Alexander and Irving Elementary schools got an up‑close look at a wide range of vehicles during their recent career day.

The afternoon featured everything from a MedForce helicopter landing on site at the Central football field to a heavy‑duty tow truck capable of rescuing almost anything. Students also explored brand‑new cars and trucks outfitted with modern technology designed to spark young imaginations.

The event included a conservation department boat, while crews from Kewanee Public Works and the Illinois Department of Transportation showcased the equipment that they use to keep the community and state running efficiently.

Yarger Machinery demonstrated the power of modern farming with a tractor display, and the Kewanee Armory guided students through safety maneuvers while explaining the features of military vehicles and equipment.

Crowd favorites included the police car, fire truck and ambulance, each drawing “oohs” and “ahs” as lights flashed and sirens sounded. OSF representatives highlighted how they provide care beyond hospital walls, and Ameren Illinois taught students how their vehicles help keep electricity flowing and homes warm.

Students climbed aboard many of the vehicles and asked thoughtful questions. Some even began imagining future careers—after all, nothing inspires a dream job quite like honking a horn during the school day. The event delivered smiles, excitement and hands‑on learning, complete with just the right amount of noise to keep everyone entertained.

The project was made possible through funding from the Harry Anderson Trust and the support of dedicated volunteers from: Advanced Asphalt, Ameren IL, Ed Morse Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, Hodge’s Towing & Repair, Illinois Department of Conservation, Illinois Department of Transportation, Kewanee Armory, Kewanee Fire & EMS Department, Kewanee Police Department, Kewanee Public Works, Medforce, OSF Care-A-Van and Yarger Machinery.
