Date for Outstanding Citizen banquet honoring Bill Breedlove announced

Bill Breedlove has been named Outstanding Citizen of the Year by the Kewanee Chamber of Commer Ambassador Club.

The Kewanee Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Club has announced that the Outstanding Citizen banquet honoring Bill Breedlove will be held on Thursday, May 15.

The evening will begin with a social time at 6 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. and the ceremony will follow.

The event will be catered by Mark Eilers Catering and held at the Flemish American Club 313 N. Burr Blvd. in Kewanee. Cost is $20 per person and is open to the public.

Breedlove’s Sporting Goods recently celebrated their 75th year in downtown Kewanee. For more than 50 of those years Bill Breedlove has been there right along other members of his family running the family business.

Breedlove’s interests and devotion to his community have inspired his activities and philanthropic endeavors. He is a charter member of the Kewanee High School Athletic Hall of Fame and currently serves on its board. He was also part of the Kewanee football stadium committee that has upgraded the facility to one of the finest in the area. He has been honored by Abilities Plus, Kewanee YMCA, Salvation Army and the Illinois Athletic Directors Association and many others for his service.

Breedlove is married to LaJean (Tharp) and has three grown children Cal, Maddie and Jack. A graduate of Kewanee High School, he attended Monmouth College where he played football for the Fighting Scots. Breedlove also has a deep passion for all things Elvis.
