Authorities release name of bicyclist killed in accident

A 31-year-old Kewanee man, Tyler L. Bliss, was killed Friday, May 3, in a single-car crash, according to a news release from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.

Bliss was fatally injured after a 2005 Dodge Magnum traveling south on US Hwy 34 and operated by 20-year-old Darren Chamberlain of Kewanee, struck his bicycle.

Bliss was given life-saving measures at the scene and was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Chamberlain and his passenger declined medical attention at the scene.

Chamberlain was cited for unlawful overtaking of a bicycle. The crash remains under investigation.

The Henry County Coroner’s Office responded to the accident and is involved in the investigation. The release by the HCSO was a joint effort between the agencies.
