Every year, the Wethersfield High School National Honor Society takes on a group service project, and this year, their goal was to improve the outside of the Wethersfield campus for students, staff and the community to enjoy.
With help from the Wethersfield Academic Foundation, the group installed two Little Free Libraries at the school. They encourage all students, staff, parents and community members to borrow a book and return it at their convenience.
“The goal is to take a book and replace it with another as sort of a self-sustaining library system,” said NHS advisor Tricia Lay.
The group also put up two pet waste stations with free waste bags along the walking trail around the school.
But they didn’t stop there, continuing their service through removing leaves, cutting back and removing dead landscaping, mulching and painting benches and gates.
With 19 members and a few staff helping, the NHS members managed to do it all within a matter of hours.
