
Kennady Anderson’s list of accomplishments as a high school student and athlete is a long one.
Next fall, she’ll take her talents to the University of Illinois, where she’ll be a member of the track and cross country teams.
Before a crowd of family members, teachers, coaches and her fellow students in the Wethersfield High School gym, Kennady signed a letter of intent Thursday to attend the university.
Before she signed, Wethersfield athletic director Tom McGunnigal read a partial list of Kennedy’s career highlights. They include:
Setting the school record for the three-mile cross country run at 17:23.
Being a three-time IHSA all-state medalist in cross country and earning 10 state medals between cross country and track.
Becoming the school’s first-ever four-year Lincoln Trail Conference cross country champion.
Being named all-conference in cross country all four years in school, both for athletics and academics.
In track, Kennady holds the school record in the 800 meters, 2:15; in the 1,600 meters, 5:08; and the 3,200 meters, 10:57.
She was a seven-time IHSA all-state medalist in track and field and was awarded the Gold Baton for Sportsmanship at the Phil Sailor Invite.
Kennady was the Lincoln Trail Conference champion twice in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters and once in the 800 meters. She was the sectional champ in the 800 and 1,600 meters last year and a multiyear state qualifier in all three races as well as the 4×400 relay.
Kennady was first-team all conference in 2021, 2022 and 2023, team distance MVP in 2022 and 2023 and academic all-conference each of her first three years in track.
She was also a five-time medalist in the Illinois Top Times Meet.
Kennady also was first-team all-conference in basketball the last two seasons, and passed the 1,000-point level last season. She was also academic all-conference all three years in basketball.
She also was all-conference and academic all-conference in volleyball.
Kennady is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council and Key Club and is the senior class president this year.
At the University of Illinois, she will major in kineisiology and will be in the pre-physical therapy program.
