Wethersfield Junior and Senior High School held its annual Veterans Day assembly Tuesday morning, featuring handmade decorations and barn quilts created by students in art classes to honor local veterans.

The event began at 10 a.m. in the school gymnasium, where art students presented their creations as gifts of appreciation and respect for the veterans’ service. Each gift included a handwritten message from a student thanking the recipient for their dedication and sacrifice.

The assembly was organized by a committee of Wethersfield teachers who plan and coordinate the school’s Veterans Day activities each year. Art teacher Elizabeth Kegebein, who oversees the decorating and gift-making efforts, introduced the idea of barn quilts as a meaningful and creative way to show gratitude.

This flag was created from barn art works by Wethersfield students.

“I enjoy that people look to me to take on this responsibility of making gifts for veterans on such an important day,” Kegebein said.

The assembly concluded at 10:45 a.m., with students returning to class or taking time to speak and take photos with the visiting veterans.
