The Illinois Student Assistance Commission has announced the names of five Wethersfield High School seniors who have been named Illinois State Scholars from the Class of 2026. They are Raiyna Verway, Addison Looney, Maci Hauser, Lilly Clark and Joey Drawyer.
Each year ISAC identifies graduating high school seniors who possess superior academic potential.
The award is based on ACT test scores and the sixth semester class size, unweighted class rank and Grade Point Average.
Approximately the top 10% of graduates from approved high schools are announced as State Scholars each year. “To be named an Illinois State Scholar is an outstanding accomplishment that will be a highlight of the recipient’s academic record,” according to ISAC.
This year’s crop of State Scholars from Wethersfield High School have indicated a wide variety of career paths they wish to pursue after graduation.
They are:
Addison Looney — Radiology
Lilly Clark — Sports Management
Joey Drawyer — Film
Raiyna Verway — Neo-Psychology concentrating on Addiction Studies
Maci Hauser — Investment Banking
“As a school district, we are so proud of all our student’s achievements and recognitions,” said WHS Guidance Counselor Jessica Seiden. “However, with these five State Scholars, it is so important to recognize their level of academic achievement. They are so well deserving for being very driven and motivated teens. They have faced many challenges throughout their time here and have come out resilient and prepared for the world’s challenges.”
Seiden also said the district is proud of the staff’s “constant commitment” to all of their student’s successes.
“It is important to recognize the fact that student success comes from so much more than teaching grammar and math facts. It also comes from having a supportive environment with strong trusting adult connections and encouragement,” she said.
