Teachers are passionate about helping their students succeed in the classroom but Wethersfield District #230 teachers are extending that support beyond graduation with three scholarships to deserving graduates to give them a boost beyond high school.

Last year the Wethersfield Education Association presented the scholarships for the first time funded largely by a Trivia Night held at Midland Golf Club.

The second annual WEA Trivia Night will be held Saturday, March 14 at Midland and WEA is inviting the community to support the event in one or more of three ways:

  1. Testing their own knowledge by entering a team of 10 at $300 per table.
  2. Making a donation in the form of a $50 Bronze, $100 Silver or $200 Gold sponsorship or sponsoring a table for $300.
  3. Donating raffle baskets or silent auction items.

There will also be a 50/50 drawing.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase including sharables, sandwiches, pizza and sides.

If they don’t wish to play, people are invited to come out and eat, buy raffle or 50/50 tickets, bid on silent auction items or make a monetary donation to the scholarship fund.

So far, nearly a dozen teams have signed up with room for more. One or two teams could be entered at the door if room is still available, according to a WEA release.

Last year the event raised $5,500 and the WEA hopes to top that amount this year and hope they will be able to continue building the scholarship fund and support students’ post-secondary goals.

The scholarships are presented to graduating seniors planning to pursue college, trade school and military service. The 2025 recipients were Yan Chavez, trades; Irvin Landwehr, military; and Ellie Merrick, college.

The theme of this year’s Trivia Night is TV/Movies/Music. The names of individuals who dress in themed t-shirts will be entered into a drawing for a prize and if tables dress in a complete theme they will be judged for a Best Table award.

The social hour and team check-in begins at 5 p.m. at Midland Golf Club. Trivia begins at 6.
