KEWANEE WEATHER

Two ways for area residents to view the solar eclipse

By The Kewanee Voice    April 3, 2024

On Monday, April 8, a total solar eclipse will grace the skies over North America, passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada. According to NASA, “it’s a rare celestial event that offers researchers a unique opportunity to study the sun’s corona, its outermost layer.”

For Kewanee residents interested in safely viewing the event, two parties are scheduled for the area.

At Black Hawk College East Campus, a Solar Eclipse Watch Party is being held on Lot A, outside building A entrance.

Glasses for viewing the eclipse as well as refreshments will be provided, while supplies last. Attendees to the party are being asked to bring a lawn chair or blanket for comfort. In the event of inclement weather, people are being asked to check the college’s website at www.bhc.edu or the college’s Facebook page for scheduling changes.

The party is sponsored by the BHC Library and the BHC Student Life Office. More information can be obtained by sending an email to library@bhc.edu.

The Kewanee Public Library is also hosting a viewing party on Monday, April 8 from 1 to 3 p.m. The library will also provide glasses at the main floor desk beginning at 12:30 p.m. The supply of glasses is limited and provided on a first come, first serve basis.
