Titans win doubleheader over Stark County

The Annawan-Wethersfield baseball team picked up two wins over Stark County Monday night in Annawan and moved to 9-2-1 on the season and 4-0 in the LTC. 

The Titans won the first game by a score of 3-1 and they shut out the Rebels, 6-0, in the nightcap. The Rebels fall to 9-9 and 2-3 inTC play.

Titans 3, Stark County 1

In game one action, senior pitcher Colin Hornback recorded eight strikeouts through the first four innings as AW held Stark County scoreless at 3-0.

In the bottom of the third inning, Kellan Keane singled on a line drive to right field, sending home Koeyn DeClercq for a 1-0 Annawan-Wethersfield lead. Maddux Heitzler advanced to third on the play and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Zeb Rashid to push the lead to 2-0. 

In the fourth inning, Nic Thurston scored on a wild pitch, giving the Titans their final run of the game and a lead of 3-0. 

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Connor Daum doubled on a line drive to right field and Braden Lindley scored, giving Stark County their only run of the game for a final score of 3-1.

Hornback was the winning pitcher for the Titans. He pitched three and two-thirds innings to earn the win on the mound. He struck out eight and walked five, while surrendering just one hit.

Tim Giesenhagen took the loss for Stark County. He struck out two and walked two, while allowing four hits and three runs over four innings. 

At the plate, Keane was 2-2 and had two RBI for the Titans. Heitzler and Thurston both went 1-2 and scored two of three Aw runs. DeClercq scored the third run for Annawan-Wethersfield. 

Titans 6, Stark County 0

Koeyn DeClercq started in the circle for the Titans and fanned five batters in the first two innings.

In the bottom of the second inning, Nic Thurston hit a double on a line drive to right field and he later scored on a wild pitch, giving AW a 1-0 lead.

The Titans extended the lead to 2-0 when Kellan Keane scored on an error to start a 3-run third inning rally. 

Colin Hornback then hit a line drive double to center field and Zeb Rashid scored to push the AW lead to 3-0. Hornback scored on a wild pitch for the third run of the inning and a lead of 4-0.

In the top of the fourth inning, DeClercq struck out two of four batters as the Titans held the Rebels scoreless through four innings. 

During the Titans’ next at-bat, Maddux Heitzler blasted a triple to right field, sending home Dillon Horrie and increasing the lead to 5-0. Keane then grounded into a fielder’s choice, scoring Heitzler for the final AW run and a score of 6-0. 

DeClercq picked up the win for the Titans. He struck out nine and walked three, while allowing just two hits. 

At the plate

Heitzler was 2-3 (one triple), with one RBI and one run. Hornback went 1-2, hitting a double, an RBI and scoring a run. 

Thurston was also 1-2, hitting a double and scoring one run. Caleb McGill went 1-2 at the plate and hit an RBI. Horrie scored one run.
