The Annawan-Wethersfield baseball team enters regional play with a record of 16-6-1 after a doubleheader sweep of Ridgewood Saturday at Howes Park in Annawan.
A sixth-inning offensive outburst in the first game turned a close contest into a 10-1 rout.
And solid pitching by Koeyn DeClercq and Zeb Rashid gave the Titans a 1-0 victory in the nightcap.
In the opener, the Titans got on the board first with a third-inning run.
The Spartans tied it in the top of the fourth, and A-W retook the lead with a run in the bottom of the inning.
The home team expanded their lead with a fifth-inning run. And then, in the bottom of the sixth, they scored seven more times to put the game out of reach.
Rashid, Colin Hornback and Dillon Horrie each drove in two runs. Nic Thurston and Caleb McGill also had RBIs.
Hornback started and went five and two-thirds innings, giving up one run and striking out 10. Rashid pitched the final inning and a third.
The nightcap was a scoreless tie until Maddux Heitzler drove in the game’s only run in the bottom of the seventh.
DeClercq and Rashid combined on the shutout, striking out 10 and walking six between them.
