Thirteen Central wrestlers advance to Rockridge Sectional

The Kewanee Central School wrestling team participated in the Illinois Elementary School Association Regional 8 meet Saturday in Aledo (at Mercer County High School) and 13 Kewanee wrestlers advanced to the Rockridge Sectional meet. 

The elementary school program consists of wrestlers in fifth through eighth grades. Those placing in the top three in each weight class at the Aledo Regional advanced to Saturday’s sectional meet. 

Regions 5-8 will converge at the Rockridge Sectional and the top four places in each weight class will qualify to compete at the 2024 IESA state wrestling meet.

Saturday’s sectional meet will start at 9 a.m. and will be held at Rockridge High School. The state wrestling meet will be held March 8-9 at the Convocation Center on the campus of Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. 

Central wrestlers’ results Saturday included:

First Place

Carter Swearingen (6th grade) – 100 lbs

Cruz Cortez (6th grade) – 105 lbs

Lain Taylor (8th grade) – 126 lbs

Ace LaFollette (8th grade) – 155 lbs

Wyatt Smith (6th grade) – 167 lbs

Second Place

Ryan Conway (6th) – 65 lbs

Jayden Logsdon (5th) – 75 lbs

Layne Ince (6th) – 85 lbs

Eli Dennison (8th) – 185 lbs

Third Place

Bentley Nanninga (5th) – 80 lbs

Brayden Kell (6th) – 85 lbs

Alex Padilla (6th) – 95 lbs

Jermain McKnight (8th) – 119 lbs

Fourth Place (but not advancing)

Reggie Hicks (5th) – 105 lbs

Aiden Gross (7th) – 145 lbs
