The Kewanee Voice is inviting the community to celebrate the first‑ever Local News Day with an open house on Thursday, April 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the newsroom’s downtown office, located at 121 N. Tremont St.
The event is free and open to the public. Guests will be welcomed with refreshments and guided tours of the newsroom.
Attendees can enter a free drawing for prizes including a BBQ grill and grill accessories donated by Walmart and a BBQ meat bundle donated by Kewanee Save-a-lot. Other prizes will include Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast tickets, generously donated by the Kewanee Kiwanis Club. Scooter’s will donate the coffee for the event. There will also be free giveaways of limited coffee mugs, T-shirts and stickers.
Staff members and board directors will be on hand to meet visitors, answer questions and talk about the work that goes into producing local, nonprofit news for Kewanee and Henry County.
The Kewanee Voice’s open house is designed to give residents a behind‑the‑scenes look at how stories are produced, how decisions are made and how a small nonprofit newsroom works to keep the community informed. The Local News Day initiative is led by a coalition of journalists, nonprofit leaders and media innovators from all over the country and is the first of its kind.
