Shrum Tops Field at Mon-Rose Invite

Annawan/Wethersfield boys cross country runners Karson Shrum and Noah Feltner fared well Saturday at the Monmouth-Roseville Titan Invitational. 

Junior Karson Shrum led the field of 48 runners, claiming first place in a time of 17:33.1. Finishing in fourth place was sophomore harrier Noah Feltner at 18:57. As a team, the A/W Titans placed second in the boy’s three-team field. 

Individual runners from six other schools competed at the Invite as well.

Macomb won the boys race with a low points total of 28, A/W edged out Quincy Notre Dame for second with 53 points and Quincy ND had 55 for third place.

Also counting for A/W were junior Logan Davis in 19th place (20:41); freshman Cash Verstraete was 20th (20:55); and senior Matthew Ponce finished 30th in 33:33.4

Also running were freshman Daylon Hendrix, junior Nathan Van Cleve and seniors Lucas Fehlberg and Tristan Sosa. 

A/W runners Zoey Vance, Makenna Verkruyse and Ellie Merrick (blue uniforms) jockey for position at the Monmouth-Roseville Invite.

In the girls race, A/W senior Zoey Vance placed 19th in a time of 27:52. Junior Ellie Merrick was 31st at 33:14.0 and freshman Makenna Verkruyse finished 32nd in a time of 33:33.4. 

Quincy ND won the girls team race, Macomb was second and Rockridge finished third. Chloe Kelly of Mon-Roseville was the girls overall winner, topping the field of 36 competitors in a time of 22:32.5.
