See who won free groceries in the FFA Grocery Giveaway

By Dave Clarke    April 29, 2024

What would you do if you won $300 to spend — any way you wanted — on groceries?

Wethersfield pre-kindergarten teacher Cortni Rumbled will have the opportunity to find out after the winning ticket stub with her name on it was drawn for the top prize in the annual Kewanee and Wethersfield FFA’s Grocery Giveaway.

Each year students and alumni from both FFA chapters sell tickets for a $5 donation for three chances to win between $100 to $300 worth of groceries from two local stores — Sullivan’s Foods and Save-A-Lot.

The chapters split the proceeds, which go to support FFA activities at each high school. The drawing alternates each year between each chapter’s recognition banquet with this year’s winning tickets drawn at the Kewanee FFA Chapter’s banquet held Wednesday, April 24.

The winners were:

First prize: Cortni Rumbold- $300 Sullivan’s

Second prize: Denny Scott- $200 Save-A-Lot

Third prize: Cody Butler- $100 Save-A-Lot

Several years ago the chapters switched from a long-standing practice of awarding meat bundles to winning ticket holders to the grocery giveaway which has proved far more popular with the public and a more successful fundraiser for FFA.
