A much smaller group than last year turned out at the Johnson Appliance parking lot on Labor day to witness the second annual “Hog Capital Pig Plop.” The fundraiser, sponsored by the Kewanee Chamber of Commerce and the Kewanee Kiwanis Club, offered a chance for three participants to win cash prizes.
The pink rubber pigs were purchased for $5 each or a litter of five could be purchased for $20, and then dropped from the basket of a lift onto a “boarseye” in the parking lot. The task of locating the pigs was easier the second year after the lift was raised higher and the pigs, while not all landing exactly near the target, did spread out enough to ensure that the top three closest pigs to the target could be easily identified.

The first place $500 winner was Scott Looney. The second place award of $250 went to Steve Looney and the third place prize of $125 went to Sam Rux.
After expenses, the funds raised from the Pig Plop will be divided between the KCOC and the Kiwanis Club and used to fund community and children’s projects.
The event was sponsored by Golnick-Shueneman Funeral Home, Breedloves Sporting Goods, B & B Printing, J & D Tree Service, Johnson Appliance, The Daily Fix Nutrition, Union Federal Savings & Loan, Edward Jones and the Peoples National Bank of Kewanee.
