Downtown got a little more merry and bright as Santa Claus and the Grinch spent several hours on Thanksgiving Day sprucing up the place.

The adding of Christmas lights to the utlity poles are a town tradition and the clear, crisp day was an ideal time to get them up and just in time for the start of the Kewanee Christmas season.

Next weekend is packed with area Christmas events, among them the Windmont and Northeast park lightings on Dec. 3, the annual Lighted Christmas Parade, the WHS Holly Jolly Christmas Festival, and the Kewanee Salvation Army Christmas Concert.

In addition, other events are TriCo Winter Wonderland, the Abilities Plus Holiday Open House and wreath sale and the Kewanee Elk’s annual Lunch with Santa. Over in Bishop Hill, shoppers can browse the annual Julmarknad or Christmas market.
