For the sports enthusiast this Friday evening the Kewanee Boiler Girls varsity basketball team will take to the hardwood at 6 p.m. against Hall in an evening honoring, ardent fan, Boiler supporter and coach, the late John Blachinsky. Meanwhile, the KHS boys varsity basketball team will travel to compete in the Hall Colmone Classic Tournament.
The small hamlet of Bishop Hill will be aglow for their Lucia Nights Festival running both Friday and Saturday from 6-9 p.m. In this picturesque historic village each and every home bears a single lit candle glowing in the windows and luminaires line the sidewalks. The simple and uniform decor creates a stunning holiday scene. Bishop Hills restaurants, shops and museums and festivities create a memorable experience participants will carry with them long after the nights have passed. On Sunday celebrate the season with a Kewanee tradition. Since 1990, the Kewanee Community Choir has performed a Christmas Concert. This year they will be singing on Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Kewanee and later again that day in Galva at 5:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church.
