Old Settlers’ Association jump starts Christmas in Bishop Hill

By The Kewanee Voice    November 18, 2025
The annual Cookie Walk always offers a wide variety of holiday cookies that are sure to please everyone. The baked delights can be purchased by the pound.

The Bishop Hill Old Settlers’ Association will begin the holiday season on Saturday, Nov. 29 with a trio of activities.
Dee Schroeder Photography will offer photo sessions at the Colony School from 9:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sittings can include up to six individuals. Larger groups will require two sittings.

One digital high resolution image per session will be delivered with a release to print. The cost is $35, with half the proceeds benefitting the Old Settlers Association. Additional images will be available for purchase, as well as Christmas cards printed with the selected image.

The sittings are a first come, first served event. Reservations will not be available ahead of time.

As a bonus, two other activities will be going on at the school during the photography sessions. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (or until supplies run out), the annual Cookie Walk features cookies of all kinds, available for purchase by the pound. Platters of homemade treats by local volunteers will be certain to please everyone.

The United Methodist Church will present an Advent wreath workshop for those done browsing the cookie aisle or waiting for their photo shoot. All supplies are provided, and the event is free to visitors.

The Old Settlers Association was founded in 1846 and is the oldest organization in Bishop Hill. It is an integral part of the village, hosting the annual car show, the Swedish Stomp, food for festivals such as Jordbruksdagarna (Ag Days), and it takes on a big role during the Christmas celebrations.

The Colony School is located at 405 West Main St. in Bishop Hill. The members encourage the public to come out and enjoy the day.
