Mon-Rose Titans outlast Boiler Girls

There was a clash of East vs West in TRAC girls basketball Thursday night in Monmouth. The West won out as the Monmouth-Roseville Titans defeated the Kewanee Boiler Girls, 66-52. 

The Boiler Girls hung with the Titans for the first three quarters of play, but Mon-Rose used an 18-9 fourth quarter to close out the win. 

Kewanee freshman Damaris Diaz scored eight first quarter points and junior Tejhiana Amos added seven to keep the Boiler Girls within two at 19-17. Carmyn Huston and Tatiana Talivaa topped the Titans with eight and seven in the first frame.

Monmouth-Roseville outscored Kewanee 14-12 in the second quarter and their lead grew to four at the half, 33-29. 

Amos made two treys and scored eight points in the second quarter, bringing her total to 15 at the half. Huston led the Titans with 12 points.

The third quarter spread was close as well as Mon-Rose outscored Kewanee 15-14. The Titans crept ahead 48-43 heading into the final eight minutes of play. 

Brianna Woodard played a key role in the pivotal 18-9 fourth quarter. She scored eight points and Huston added four as the Titans pulled out the 66-52 win. 

Mya Dearing scored six of her 10 points in the fourth frame and Amos added seven more in the half. 

Amos led all scorers with 22 points, while Dearing and Diaz followed with 10 and eight, respectively. Huston scored 19 and Talivaa and Woodard added 15 and 14 for the Titans. 

Monmouth-Roseville is now 14-9 on the season and 5-3 in TRAC-West play, while the Boiler Girls fall to 6-15 and 3-3 in TRAC-East action. 

Frosh-soph

The Kewanee frosh-soph team handed Monmouth-Roseville a 34-19 loss. 

Nolie Charlet led the Boiler Girls with 11 points, Audrey Clucas had nine and Remy Hicks added six in the win.
