The Wethersfield Lady Geese came up with a big 52-30 win over Newman Central Catholic Saturday at the Amboy Shootout.
Wethersfield set the pace early and jumped out to a 16-6 lead. Junior Lajaya Angel had a hot start and made eight points in the opening quarter. Senior Paige Huffman hit two 3-pointers as the two veteran players combined for 14 of 16 Wethersfield points.
Freshman Lana Scott took over in the second quarter and zeroed in on four treys. Huffman added five more points as the Lady Geese topped Newman 19-11 in the second frame and extended their lead 35-17 at the half.
Angel contributed five more points in the third quarter and Kennady Anderson added four as the Lady Geese cruised home for the win.
Scott scored a game-high 14 points, Angel added 13 and Huffman tossed in 11 on the day.
Wethersfield improves to 5-2 on the season and Newman Central Catholic falls to 3-5.
