
The Wethersfield girls basketball team had a strong first half effort Thursday night en route to beating LTC foe, Mercer County, 57-33.
The win marks the twelfth straight for the Lady Geese as they move to 15-2 overall and 4-1 in LTC play. Mercer County falls to 9-9 and 3-2 in the Lincoln Trail Conference.
In the latest AP girls basketball rankings, the Lady Geese were among those receiving votes (2) as the season heats up and teams jockey for postseason bracket positions.
Wethersfield vs Mercer County
Wethersfield surged ahead 17-6 in the first quarter and 16-9 in the second frame to mount a 33-15 lead at the break.
Freshman point guard Lana Scott had a productive first half for the Lady Geese, hitting four 3-pointers and scoring 14 of her game-high 16 points by the intermission.
Senior forward Kennady Anderson added eight first half points and junior forward Lajaya Angel contributed seven.
The two teams each scored 11 third quarter points, but Wethersfield topped the Golden Eagles 13-7 in the fourth quarter to cruise to the 57-33 win.

Anderson tacked on seven more points in the second half and junior guard/forward Kendall Vincent added five.
Scott and Anderson led the Lady Geese with 16 and 15 points, respectively. Angel and Vincent followed with 11 and seven on the night.
Sydney Lamkin and Hallie Schreurs topped Mercer County with nine and seven in vain.
