
In a Princeville Regional that’s stacked with four of the top Lincoln Trail Conference teams, Wethersfield (4) defeated a non-LTC entity Elmwood (5) in the regional semifinal by a score of 42-36.
On the opposite side of the bracket, two LTC teams went to battle and sixth-seeded Abingdon-Avon upset top-seeded Biggsville (West Central), 57-37, in semifinals action.
The Princeville Regional title will now be settled by Wethersfield (4) and Abingdon-Avon (6) Friday at 7 p.m. at Princeville High School.
Wethersfield 42, Elmwood 36
The Lady Geese passed their first post season test Monday night by coming up big in the third quarter, pulling ahead of Elmwood 30-22.
The Lady Geese are now 26-2 on the season, while Elmwood ends with a 22-8 record.
Elmwood took an early 12-8 lead over Wethersfield, but the Lady Geese righted the ship and outscored the Trojans 10-5 in the second frame to go up 18-17 at the half.
Paige Huffman hit three treys in the opening half and Kendall Vincent scored six to help keep Wethersfield in contention.
Andrea Glenn and Tinley Lemmerman led Elmwood with five and four points, respectively.
Huffman nailed two more threes in the pivotal 12-5 third quarter and Lajaya Angel chipped in with four to extend Wethersfield’s lead, 30-23.
Elmwood outscored Wethersfield 14-12 in the final frame, but the Lady Geese topped the Trojans 22-10 in the middle two quarters en route to claiming the 42-36 win.
Kennady Anderson went 4-4 at the line and scored eight fourth quarter points to help seal the WHS win.
Glenn added five more in the second half for Elmwood and scored 12 in all. Chloe Howerton had nine.
In all, Huffman made five 3-pointers for 15 points. Angel followed with nine and Anderson had eight on the night.
