Etta LaFlora, executive director of the Sunshine Community Services Center, is thanking participants who turned out Monday, Jan. 20 for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration at the library.
Each year, the event is hosted by current and former AmeriCorps members.
“We had a really nice turnout in spite of the very cold weather,” said LaFlora.

The children watched videos about the life of Dr. King and took part in various activities and crafts that were designed to teach them more about the Civil Rights leader.
Free books were provided and both children and adults enjoyed a piece of birthday cake to celebrate the special day, LaFlora said.

“We look forward to this event each year and are thankful to the Kewanee Public Library for their continued support, materials and books,” she said.
