
Kewanee High School’s varsity boys basketball team picked up a 69-61 overtime win over Winnebago in the Rock Falls Shootout Saturday.
Winnebago jumped out to a 19-12 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Boilers closed the gap by outscoring them 15-12 in the second.
Kewanee tied the score at 53 at the end of regulation. They won the overtime period 16-8.
Greyden Lewis led Kewanee with 22 points, which included two three-pointers. Also scoring in double figures were Braydon Conley (17), Catrelle Reed (14) and Colson Welgat (12).
Winnebago’s Brody Larson was the game’s leading scorer with 28.
The Riveters also played at the shootout and lost narrowly to Winnebago, 52-49.
The Riveters fell behind 19-12 to close the first half and then waited until the fourth quarter to begin their climb back into the ball game.
Trailing by 7 again at the end of the third quarter, the Riveters found themselves down by as many as 13 in the final frame but clawed their way back into the game behind 20 game high-points from Dayvon Robinson and Chris Crowe with 16.
Jesus Martinez added 8. The Riveters had possession of the ball with 3.6 seconds left down by three and just came up short 52-49.
With the loss, the Riveters fall to 8-8 on the mid-point of the season. Next they will be in Prouty Gymnasium at Princeton High School on Tuesday.
Kewanee’s Boiler Girls rolled to a 66-29 win over Rock Falls.
Kewanee cruised to the victory after taking a 46-13 halftime lead.
Mya Dearing led the way for the Boiler Girls with 17. Damans Diaz had 14 and Tejhiana Amos added 11.
