Kewanee High School’s soccer team got a 3-2 win over Streator Wednesday.
“We had a good crowd of people supporting Kewanee players and celebrated every play of each player,” Coach Jesus Bermudez said. “That helped a lot.”
“Knowing of how good Streator is, Kewanee set their minds on winning,” the coach said.
Alex Barron started the celebration with a kick from mid range, beating Streator’s goalie. A few minutes later, Isidro Martinez was one on one vs. the goalie; the goalie saved the first kick but on the rebound Martinez took a second kick and scored, giving Kewanee a 2-0 lead.
In the second half, Streator adjusted lines and scored. Kewanee kept pushing and Martinez scored on a corner kick. “Kingston Peterson crossed the ball in the air and Isidro just headed the ball in the goal,” Bermudez said. Streator scored again; but it was not enough.
