On Saturday, the KHS girls basketball program faced off against Rock Island High School in two challenging non-conference matches.

Saturday also served as a homecoming of sorts, as the Lady Rocks are coached by famed KHS alum Henry Hall. Hall graduated from KHS in 1987 after a storied basketball career.
As an encouraging show of support, several former classmates, teachers and coaches attended Saturday’s games to root Hall on and congratulate him after his successful varsity match.

Though the sophomore Boiler Girls eked out a close victory (35-32) against the visitors, the Rock Island Rocks easily claimed victory in the varsity match (52-72).
Sophomore Bailey VanWinkle led the JV team with 13 points. Behind her, the JV team scorers included:

Kieryn Abernathy – 8 points
Audrey Clucas – 6 points
Annie Campbell – 4 points
Addy Yepsen – 4 points
Despite coming up short in the second game in Brockman Gym, the varsity lineup earned a generous number of points. Senior Mya Dearing led the pack with 15 points.

Sophomore Damaris Diaz and senior Tejhiana Amos were close behind, adding 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Other scorers for the varsity Boiler Girls included:
Addy Yespen – 6 points
Bailey VanWinkle – 3 points
Audrey Clucas – 3 points
Stardeja Jordan – 2 points
The Boiler Girls will face the Hall Red Devils on Thursday in Spring Valley. On Saturday, the varsity girls will host the Farmington Farmers in Brockman Gym at 1 p.m., and the JV team will battle Farmington’s JV players in Good’s Gym at approximately 2:30 p.m. in Good’s Gym.
