Kewanee High School hosted 12 area schools on Friday, April 12 and Saturday April 13 for the annual IHSA Organization Contest for full group music ensembles. Those dozen schools brought 47 ensembles to compete in front of IHSA certified judges.

Multiple contests are held around the state of Illinois each year and points are earned for superior and excellent ratings for a max amount of 150 points in the vocal category and 150 points in the instrumental category. The choral events were held at the Petersen Auditorium and the band events were held at the Brockman Gymnasium.

The points earned during the event combine with the IHSA Solo and Ensemble Contest points to determine standing for the 2024 State Music Sweepstakes Competition. This competition is the combination of both choir and band points for both events.

The KHS Choir and Band were in second place overall entering Friday’s competition. Last year, KHS was state runners-up for Class B. After Saturday’s performances and points were added, KHS is the ISHA Class A State Champions.
