Kewanee School District honors retirees

The Kewanee School District honored several retirees at  the School District Institute Thursday.

Honored were:

Dr. Chris Sullens, district superintendent; Dr. Tami Brown, Irving principal; Jenny Grebner,  Kewanee High School teacher;  Laura Nolan, Central School teacher; Carl Rohrig, bus driver and custodian; Karen Rogula, elementary teacher aide and parent coordinator; Joe Seyller, bus driver; , Bob Braden, bus driver; and Randy Cernovich, the district’s transportation director and bus driver.

Kewanee High School honored its retirees at a luncheon on Thursday.

Sullens, who had been superintendent of the Neponset School District when it consolidated with Kewanee, will retire effective June 30. Current Kewanee High School Principal Rebecca Baney will succeed Sullens as superintendent.

Career details of the other retirees are:

Dr. Tamara Brown was principal at Irving School for the last 18 years. Her prior experience includes five years with the Regional Office of Education, three years at Hall Township, two years each in the Bradford School District and the Pekin School District and one year apiece with the Peoria Alternative School, the LeRoy School District and the Cowden-Herrick School District.

Laura Nolan spent 15 years with the Kewanee School District and seven years before that in Galva. She has a bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University and was a Title 1 teacher at Central School. She was also freshman class adviser and junior class adviser.

Jennifer Grebner had been a math teacher at Kewanee High School since 2001. She also taught for eight years in Morton and for two years in Stillman Valley.

She has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Illinois State University. At KHS she was sophomore class adviser and assistant tennis coach.

Carl Rohrig started with the Kewanee district in 2017 and has been a bus driver and a custodian at Belle Alexander and Kewanee High School.

Karen Rogula had been a teacher’s aide at Irving, Franklin and Belle Alexander schools from 1991 until 2008. Beginning in 2004, she was parent coordinator at Belle Alexander and Lyle schools. 

Joe Seyller had been a bus driver with the district since 2010.

Bob Braden had been a bus driver starting in 2013.

Randy Cernovich started with the district in 2013 as transportation director and bus driver.
