Kewanee Education Association (KEA) leaders say they will see what union members think about the Kewanee School Board’s latest contract offer.
But a statement released by the KEA late Wednesday indicated the union’s leadership isn’t entirely optimistic about how the members will feel about the offer.
Bridget Shanahan, media relations director for the Illinois Education Association, with which the KEA is affiliated, released this statement:
“We reviewed the district’s data and met again with them tonight. We still have concerns around their latest offer, and do not think it does enough to attract and retain the quality educators students need. It is unfortunate the district is no longer interested in bargaining with us. That said, we do believe the current offer on the table is a step in the right direction and we will take the offer to our members for their feedback.”
Earlier this month, the school board announced that it had made its “last, best and final” offer to the union. The offer included a range of pay increases depending on how many years’ service a teacher has.
Union and school board members met Wednesday for a mediation session.
The KEA represents more than 200 teachers and support staff in the Kewanee School District.
