In the kitchen with Kim: Blazing Peanuts

Some of the best memories come from the simplest things—like a handful of spicy peanuts shared among friends. This week, we found ourselves reminiscing about our favorite family tradition that all started with a family trip to the Ozarks.

When my brother and I were teenagers, our parents decided to take us to a resort in Camdenton, Missouri. They had heard it was a great family-friendly spot, but they had no idea just how special it would become for us. Upon arriving, we met Jay and the Hauserman family. Jay was the kind of person who instantly made you feel like you belonged.

He didn’t just welcome us; he made sure we were part of the fun. He taught my brother and me how to water ski, spending hours patiently driving the boat as we tumbled into the lake again and again.

With Jay, there was always something to do—fishing, tubing or simply sharing a laugh over a snack. He had a knack for bringing everyone together for a fun time. For over twenty years, we returned to that same resort each summer, reconnecting with the same families.

One of the many ways Jay made our trips memorable was through food. He always had something new to share, and one of our favorite treats was his spicy peanuts.

This week, however, brought sad news—Jay passed away. So, in honor of Jay, we’re sharing this Blazing Peanuts recipe. It’s simple, bold and full of the kind of warmth that reminds us of him. We hope you enjoy them as much as we have over the years.

From our kitchen to yours — enjoy!
