The Wethersfield Flying Geese hosted Knoxville Friday night for a Lincoln Trail Conference clash and the Geese prevailed with a big 75-54 win.

Wethersfield used the strength of the two middle quarters to put a lot of daylight between themselves and the Blue Bullets.

The Geese outscored Knoxville 47-26 in the middle two frames to stretch their 14-13 first quarter lead to 61-39 after three quarters of play.

The Blue Bullets outscored Wethersfield 15-14 in the fourth quarter, but the deep hole Knoxville dug for themselves was too much to overcome.

Senior Colin Hornback got the ball rolling for the Geese with two 3-pointers in the first quarter. Will Shreeves tossed in eight for Knoxville.

Wethersfield senior big man, Landon Sauer, scored 10 in the second quarter as the Geese lead grew to 11 points at the half (37-26).

Junior Zeb Rashid added six first half points. Shreeves had five more to add to his 13-point first half.

Hornback dialed in for two more threes en route to scoring 10 in the third frame. Sauer added eight more as the Geese continued to pull away at 61-39.

Knoxville’s Jacob Morris scored 10 of his 13 points in the fourth quarter and Irv Landwehr put in five for Wethersfield in the closing minutes.

Sauer and Hornback led Wethersfield’s balanced scoring attack with 20 and 18 points on the night. Adding 13 and 10, respectively, were Rashid and Dillon Horrie.

Shreeves led Knoxville with 18 points.

The Geese are now 7-9 and 3-1 in the LTC and Knoxville slips to 3-16 and 1-5 in the conference.
