
Three members of the Kewanee High School boys track and field team have qualified to compete at the IHSA 2A state finals next weekend on the campus of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.
Leocadio Gandarilla, Anthony Padilla and James “JJ” Roginski qualified for the state meet during the 2A Galesburg Sectional on Thursday.
Morton scored 144 points en route beating the field of 15 teams in Galesburg. Kewanee finished in eighth with 35 points.

Jacob Rapps of Geneseo had a narrow win over Kewanee sophomore Anthony Padilla in the 110 hurdles. Rapp was first with a time of 15.88 and Padilla was second at 15.91.
Senior JJ Roginski cleared 6′ 0.75″ in the high jump, good for second place. Junior weights specialist, Leocadio Gandarilla, was fifth in the shot put (49′ 3″) and sixth in the discus (147′ 6″).

Gandarilla exceeded the state qualifying distance of 48′ 7″ in the shot put and was over the qualifying standard of 144′ 2″ in the discus.
