The event is an open-house style party where families walk through and grab a gift bag for each child. These bags will contain a checklist of activities along with free goodies The children may then venture around the room to different stations including; hot cocoa, paint-your-own cookie kit and grab-bag containing a holiday craft kit. There will also be quick and easy games for prizes and a sign-in sheet for chances to win door prizes
This year, organizers are giving out prizes that include Smart Tech gadgets like portable speakers, a season pass for the Oasis pool, and gift cards for the Park District.
Cassandra Swearingen, activities director of the Kewanee Park District, said that there will be a very special jolly visitor and possibly even a few of his elves available for photos with the children.
The Kids’ Christmas Party is a joint effort between The Kewanee Park District, Birth to Five Illinois Region 28, and Kewanee Kiwanis Club.
Swearingen said in the past, the party has been well-attended by the public.
“Although we have not tracked exact numbers in the past, we do know that based on the amount of gift bags passed out, we had over 70 children last year,” said Swearingen. “It is completely free of charge to attend and is just our way of adding some extra Christmas cheer for the kids in our community.”
Swearingen said that providing fun and safe activities and ways to recreate is always a top priority for the park district.
“We look forward to this event each holiday season and hope it’s a tradition we can keep alive for many years to come,” she said.
