Conor Mallon Band brings Irish fire to Cambridge

By The Kewanee Voice    August 22, 2025

On Sunday, Aug. 24, Ca d’Zan House Concerts, located at 411 South Rd. in Cambridge, welcomes the Conor Mallon Band for an evening of traditional Irish music, featuring the mesmerizing uilleann pipes as its centerpiece.

Originally from Keady, County Armagh, Mallon is recognized as “one of the leading pipers of his generation,” earning acclaim for his instrumental prowess and creative innovation. After beginning his musical journey at the Armagh Pipers Club, he rose to become a senior teacher and acclaimed performer whose accolades include the ACNI/BBC NI Young Traditional Musicians Platform Award, All-Ireland Champion, and multiple prestigious scholarships.

His debut solo album, Unearthed, released in May 2023, was hailed for its “high-octane production” by The Irish Times, and received international recognition—including a nomination for a German Critics Award and winning Album of the Year at Chicago’s Ireland Tonight Music Awards.

This is a rare chance to hear one of Ireland’s premier uilleann pipers alongside a phenomenal ensemble, making traditional music feel fresh, vital and exhilarating. The Conor Mallon Band promises a memorable performance under the summer sky.

Enjoy a relaxed potluck and social hour from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by the performance at 7 p.m. This all-ages, outdoor concert invites the whole family—just bring a lawn chair or blanket for comfort.

Local uilleann piper Jon Cooper, along with Miles, Anderson, and Colette Taylor, will open the show with a set of pipe and whistle tunes. A suggested donation of $20–$30 will support the performers.
