Competitive Dance Invitational held at KHS

The third annual Kewanee Competitive Dance Invitational was held Saturday at Kewanee High School.

Twelve high school dance squads participated in the competition (11 teams in Class 1A and one in Class 2A). In the 1A competition, Sterling and Canton tied for first place with 76.50 points. LaSalle-Peru was the lone school in 2A and they received a score of 67.87.

The Kewanee team performed a routine to a medley of Michael Jackson songs (Smooth Criminal, Beat It and Bad). They placed eighth after receiving a score of 67.93.

Members of the team are Nayeli Leon, Citalli Cazares, Aaliyah Leon, Alivia Anderson, Janessa Cazares, Leah Anderson and Emmalee Kilstrom.

Kewanee’s next competition will be Jan. 6 at the Mahomet Seymour Dance Invitational. The Fieldcrest Dance Invitational is Jan. 13 and the IHSA Sectional competition will be Jan. 20.
