It was a history-making game Wednesday for the Kewanee High School soccer team:
—Kewanee won 6-2, and “For what I know, this is the first time the Boilermakers beat Streator High School,” Coach Jose Bermudez said.
— And Cristian Cazares scored four goals, giving him 91 in his career and moving him past Santos Contreras’ previous career record of 88 goals. Bermudez noted that Cazares has five more games in which to add to his total.
“The whole team was excited for the game and the record about to be broken,” Bermudez said. “This excitement made the Boilers play hard and smart, looking very strong and confident.”
“Streator had a really good team,” Bermudez said, “very strong and fast.
“But the Boilermakers played in a superior way, stopping Streator in every area of the field,” he said, adding, “Kewanee covered the whole field very well.”
Bermudez added, “The crowd celebrated everything in Kewanee Stadium and supported with lots of cheering noise.”
Kewanee’s other two goals were scored by Tony Moran and Jack Coombes.
Tyson Currie and Isidro Martinez each had two assists, and Moran and Cazares had one each.
Dillon Price had 15 saves and Coombes had one.
The Boilers took 13 shots in the game.
