In what their coach described as a “great night,” the Kewanee High School bounced back from a big loss to score an 8-0 win over visiting Riverdale Wednesday.
Just a day after taking a 10-1 loss in a game in which the Boilers were missing seven players, they were in control Wednesday, starting early in the game.
“The party started early for the home team at the Kewanee stadium,” Coach Jose Bermudez said, when Cristian Cazares scored a few minutes into the game.
It was the first of Cazares’ three goals on the night, which brought him to within two goals of the school’s all-time scoring record, held by Santos Contreras.
“The whole Boiler team played very smart, keeping possession of the ball and making the Rams run behind the ball,” Bermudez said.
Individual stats for the Boilers were:
Goals — Cazares 3, J. J. Roginski 2, Tony Moran and Miguel Cortez 1 each.
Saves — Dillon Price 4.
Assists — Cazares, Alfonso Corral, Moran, Roginski and Tyson Currie, 1 apiece.
Kewanee had 24 shots for the game.
